CNN Health recently posted an article titled “CDC sets threat levels for drug-resistant ‘superbugs’“.
Antibiotic resistant bacteria is something to be concerned about, however I think that fear is definitely not the answer. There are a few good suggestions at the end of the article to help prevent these “superbugs”. I would like to share a few simple holistic steps you can take to help protect you and your family.
Simple Steps of Prevention:
1. Avoid hospital and clinic visits as much as possible. Instead use whole foods, supplements, sunshine, and herbs from God’s creation to increase your immune system and encourage your body to fight infection when necessary.
2 . The recommendation to save antibiotics for when absolutely necessary is worth repeating. God created our bodies to naturally heal itself and sometimes letting the infection run its course is the best option. Again herbs and supplements can assist your body in this natural process and if necessary work as natural antibiotics.
3. Obtaining proper sleep and rest regularly is very important for immune health. During sleep the immune system prepares for a new day. Adults need approximately 8 hours of sleep a night while children, teens and elderly need more sleep. Learning to read your own signals and go to bed at regularly schedule times each night is a key to replenishing sleep.
4. Use essential oils mixed in soap to wash your hands not antibacterial soaps. Studies have shown that antibacterial soaps are no more effective at lowering bacteria on your hands than plain soap. These studies have also been linked with possible increase in resistant bacteria..
4. Last but not least: Neisseria gonorrhoeae is mentioned as one of the “superbugs” in the above article. This is a sexually transmitted disease. God has given us a beautiful guide to live by in His Word Avoiding sexual promiscuity and sexual relations outside of marriage is the best prevention for this infection and other STD’s.
Run from sexual immorality! Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the fornicator sins against his own body. Or don’t you know that your body is a temple for the Ruach HaKodesh who lives inside you, whom you received from God? The fact is, you don’t belong to yourselves; for you were bought at a price. So use your bodies to glorify God.
